Doesn’t sound to impressive, but looking at mac.nl, a normal iMac is not fitted with Intel i7, so that result is far from a “standaard” iMac at the moment.

I’m trying to find some time this weekend to combine my notes and photo’s into this article. It’s not that hard to do, if you pay attention on a few crucial points.

It’s very quiet, and I wasn’t even aiming for that. Though I’m pretty sure it will make some noise when stressing it.

I got a QNAP-419P+ hooked up through a direct gb line, so loading the average photo into memory should only take around 0.5 seconds. It works fine, except when loading pages full of them. I’ll need to figure out if Lightroom can keep a picture in memory for longer periods now there is so much ram available.

Is it quiet? Problem with my self built pc’s was always the noise. Also: NAS storage is not really an option for your photo library, unless you have a very fast iscsi NAS. I decided not to go that way and I use a macbook pro 15″ with quad core i7, 16G RAM, 256G samsung ssd, 6TB western digital thunderbolt harddisc, 27 Dell ultrasharp monitor.

Also check http://gizmodo.com/hackintosh/. Please note that I will keep track of your blog as I have been playing with the idea to build a hackintosh as well.
